For the second time since 2007, the South Windsor High School Bobcats Robotics Team captured the FIRST Robotics World Championship – this time on April 17 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

The team was also one of 16 in Connecticut to receive grant funding for the robotics competition from CL&P and its sister company, Yankee Gas. A total of $17,000 in grants were awarded, ranging from $500 to $5,000, with the Bobcats receiving a $1,000 grant.

Established in 1989, FIRST stands for "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology." It is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering future generations of scientists and engineers through mentor-based robotics programs that build engineering and technology aptitude, encourage creativity and innovation, and teach valuable life-skills, like selfconfidence, teamwork and leadership.

Northeast Utilities, CL&P and Yankee Gas' parent company, is the title sponsor of the FIRST Connecticut regional robotics competition through 2012. This year's Northeast Utilities FIRST Connecticut Regional was held April 1-3 at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford. Over 1,500 high school students competed.
